Traditions of Ramadan

Traditions of Ramadan
Ramadan is observed differently and in unique ways in various countries across the world. Following are some of the most common traditions of Ramadan in UAE and elsewhere:
- Muslims and non-Muslims wish all those who are fasting with the greeting of ‘Ramadan Kareem’
- Iftar, the breaking of the fast, is a time when friends and family all gather to eat and celebrate the time together as a community
- The fast is broken with a odd number of dates, or at least with an odd number of sips of water
- Muslims search for Laylat al-Qadr, also known as “Night of Power”, which usually comes on the 27th day of Ramadan. It is believed to be the actual day that the first revelation of the Qu’ran came to Prophet Muhammed.
- Charity is a big part of the undertakings of people who fast during Ramadan, as it is believed to teach them the spirit of giving
