World’s Largest Solar Power Project to be Built in Dubai
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has announced the world’s largest single-site Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) project in Dubai
- To be implemented by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority at a cost of AED 14.2 billion, the project will generate 700 megawatts (MW) of power when completed
- Using the Independent Power Producer model, the CSP will include the world’s tallest solar tower at 260 metres height, and an AED 100 billion fund to finance the plan
- The project comes as part of the fourth stage of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, supporting the goals of Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai
- The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is a public service infrastructure company that regulates the supply of electricity and water in emirate of Dubai
- The Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the largest single-site strategic renewable energy project, using the IPP model
- The Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is expected to generate 1000MW of power by 2020, and 5000MW by 2030
- Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 consists of five main pillars: infrastructure, legislation, funding, building capacities and skills, and having an eco-friendly energy mix
