Toll roads coming up in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is on track to setup a road toll system similar to the Salik system in Dubai. Abu Dhabi’s new Law No 17 of 2017, HH President Sheikh Khalifa, states that the Department of Transport (DoT) will identify the areas where the tolls will be setup and what would be the applicable toll rates.
DoT will be the authority to collect the Abu Dhabi toll tariff from the users who drice through the toll roads. The proposed fee for the toll roads will be announced soon. It is to be noted that ambulances, public buses, motorcycles and vehicles belonging to the Armed forces and Civil defense would be exempted from the tariff.
The penalty for non payment of tolls would be high as per the law, upto Dhs 10,000 with a yearly cap of Dhs 25,000.
