Speed Limit on Two Major Dubai Highways Reduced

- Speed limits are being reduced to 110 km/h on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road in Dubai
- The move to slow down drivers on the two highways will come into force from 15th October, 2017
- A joint operation between Dubai Police and RTA found both highways carry heavy traffic and have become hotspots for accidents and collisions
- The current capacity of the two roads is about 12,000 vehicles per hour per direction
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E 311) begins in New Al Falah in Abu Dhabi and extends north-eastward towards Ras Al Khaimah
- Emirates Road, which is E 611 by highway code, was known as Dubai Bypass Road till 2013
- In the first six months of 2017, 6 people died and 78 more were injured in 99 accidents on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road
- During the first half of 2017, there were 10 road deaths and 75 injuries resulting from 40 accidents on Emirates Roads
- E 311 and E 611 carry a volume of 7009 and 6442 vehicles respectively, towards Abu Dhabi from Dubai
