Many social media users were very quick to share this video of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, greeting the volunteers as they were doing their jobs.
The Ramadan Aman program is an Ajman based initiative that has been held religiously every year you during the month of Ramadan since 2012. The initiative involves volunteers handing out Iftar meals to drivers on the busy roads of Dubai especially at traffic intersections just before the Maghrib prayers.
The volunteering group is run by an association known as the Al Ihsan Charity Association. The main aim of the association is to cut down the number of traffic accidents that occur usually during the rush hours just before Iftar. Majority of the traffic accidents that are very fatal usually happens in the holy month of Ramadan just close to the Iftar time, according to the police. Just last year in Dubai, six people have been killed of which three had been run over.
The Head of the Federal Traffic Council and Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Operations Affairs, Major General Al Zafein, previously told Gulf News, “Many drivers speed to reach iftar on time or are returning home after work. Speeding and not paying attention to the road is dangerous behavior.” Accidents are fatal and can cause not just the lives of those involved in the accident but also those who are related to the victims of such horrific scenarios in both emotional and psychological ways.
The initiated taking must be applauded for its very good cause. These accidents usually a car do you do reckless driving caused by extreme hunger because of fasting. It is also called by heavy smokers who get tensed and nervous because they having smoked while driving. This can make them make many mistakes and cause several accidents, thereby causing the lives of others while also putting themselves at risk.
