Old buildings in the capital to be demolished

Abu Dhabi: A total of 392 buildings in the capital that were constructed more than 25 years ago have been marked for demolition, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced in a statement sent today (November 9).
The capital’s municipal authority recently demolished 15 communal houses in Al Katam area and 17 houses in Samha. About 15 houses have also been rebuilt.
The actions have been undertaken in order to ensure that residents are kept safe from ageing buildings that are unsafe for human habitation.
Before the demolitions, the municipality notified landlords about the safety risks in the structures, and designated a grace period for their removal.
A comprehensive inspection campaign is also currently ongoing to detect unlicensed structures that have been constructed, and these will also be demolished after all notification processes have been completed.
