Dh100m improvements at Abu Dhabi ‘Mother of the Nation’ park

One of Abu Dhabi’s most popular open spaces is to have nearly Dh100 million worth of improvements only a year after it reopened following a major redevelopment.
Sheikh Fatima bint Mubarak Park will be turned into a 6,900-square-metre open entertainment park that will host social events and activities.
The park in Mushrif is one of the oldest and largest green urban areas in the capital, having first opened in 1982 to women and children only.
It recently underwent an extensive refurbishment programme, adding new recreation and sports facilities.
The improvements are among projects worth Dh470 million adopted by the Abu Dhabi Government in partnership with the private sector on Tuesday.
The Executive Committee approved a Dh112m roads and infrastructure project to create 104 housing units in Al Maqta.
Aim and plan
It also aims to develop two community markets in Mohammed bin Zayed and Shakhbut cities, valued at Dh195m and Dh182m.
The plan is to develop a network of community markets in 38 locations on the mainland and islands. The markets would include social facilities and retail and government services.
Health education material adopted by the Ministry of Education’s curriculum for all-girls schools in Abu Dhabi was also approved. The move is intended to develop knowledge related to girls’ health issues and creating a social environment to support it.
