17,000 new street signs in Abu Dhabi over the next year

The implementation of the emirate’s new addressing system has seen all main roads in the capital featuring names of historical and cultural significance. Having marked these with blue and purple signs, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City is now working to set up new street names for internal streets. In addition, as part of the process to assign a unique address to each structure, buildings across the capital are now being identified with new number plates.
Over the next year, the municipality will put up about 17,000 new street signs in Abu Dhabi city, as well as 66,000 building number plates with unique QR codes.
When scanned through smart devices, the QR codes will eventually provide information about the street, the meaning of its name, nearest points of interest and even local events in the area.
