Dubai: The fourth edition of the World Government Summit, themed ‘Shaping Future Governments’, kicked off on Monday.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the three-day summit is taking place at the Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai.

The event is being attended by more than 3,000 participants from 125 countries, including heads of states, top dignitaries, leaders and experts from the government and private sectors across the world.

Mohammed Al Gergawi, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs delivered the opening speech of the summit.

Al Gergawi addressed the future government services and changes in economy and business.

He spoke about how Shaikh Mohammad has made people’s happiness a KPI (Key Performance Indicator) for the UAE.

The summit will have US President Barack Obama deliver a keynote speech via closed-circuit television on the opening day. The US will participate as the annual guest of honour at this year’s event.

Shaikh Mohammad will also announce major structural changes in the federal government in preparation for the next phase of development in the UAE later on Monday.

Leading international organisations, including the United Nations, Gulf Cooperation Council, League of Arab States, World Bank, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development and World Economic Forum are participating in the summit.

Over the next three days, the World Government Summit will discuss the future of eight vital sectors: education, healthcare, government action, science, innovation and technology, economy, labour market and human capital management, development and sustainability and the cities of the future.
