UAE to get 50 New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
- UAE will soon have at least 50 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers in the northern and eastern regions
- The Federal Electricity and Water Authority opened a tender for the project in August 2017, and an announcement on the installation of the chargers will be made soon
- By the end of 2017, all Northern Emirates like Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah will have fast charging stations
- Some of the main locations include American University in Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Khalifa Hospital, Dhaid, Madam, Kalba and Dibba Al Hisn in Sharjah
- The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) is responsible for supplying and regulating electricity and water in UAE
- Some of FEWA’s major services are applying for new electrical and water connection, applying and approval of electrical and water technical drawings, and closing such connections
- In August 2017, FEWA launched a pilot project of installing one fast charging point and 10 medium level chargers at its headquarters to supply power for its fleet
- The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy announced a series of incentives in September 2017 to promote the use of zero emission electric cars
- Electric vehicle owners in Dubai will get free charging until 2019, free parking in designated areas, free Salik tag and free vehicle registration
