UAE ranked among top countries in WTO study

Abu Dhabi: UAE has managed to achieve top rankings in international trade statistics of 2015, according to a study released by the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
“The figures and data contained in the WTO International Trade Statistics 2015 are promising, and reflect the continued success of the UAE’s economic policies year after year,” said Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy.
The WTO figures show that non-oil foreign trade amounted to Dh1.632 trillion in 2014, and is expected to grow 10 per cent to Dh1.75 trillion in 2015. In terms of ranking, UAE is the 16th top global exporter with a growth of 4 per cent from 2010-2014 as opposed to the 6 per cent global average. However, in terms of global imports, the country ranked at 20 with a 12 per cent growth contrasting with the 5 per cent global growth.
In terms of the global services trade, the UAE ranks at the 19th position with a value of Dh257.1 billion in imports. The country ranked 42nd globally in service exports, with international trade reaching Dh73.4 billion with a 16 per cent increase from 2010-2014. In 2014, UAE service exports achieved 14 per cent growth, compared to 2013. The direct trade of the country totalled Dh1.07 trillion, and the value of imports reached Dh696.4 billion. The figures in the first half of 2015 are positive indicators for the UAE’s foreign trade, including direct trade.
Al Mansouri added that Dubai’s win to host the World Expo 2020 and the development projects carried out by the UAE in several sectors, supported by many national initiatives such as the national innovation strategy, have all together given a boost to ongoing efforts aiming to raise the country’s profile to better increase the performance of various sectors, including trade.
