UAE Prepares for Ramadan 2017

- Ramadan will start on Saturday, 27th May, 2017 in UAE and Middle East
- The moon-sighting committee set the date according to sightings on Thursday, 25th May, and will reconvene to sight the crescent moon on Friday night
- Ramadan will end on 24th June, 2017, and subsequently, Eid Al Fitr will fall on 25th June, 2017
- From 28th May, all private institutions in UAE will function for two hours lesser than usual, and government employees will work from 09:00 AM till 02:00 PM
- Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, and is considered the most holy month for Muslims
- Ramadan is advanced by approximately 11 days every year on the Gregorian calendar, although it falls on the same dates on the Islamic calendar
- Schools in UAE will close on 5th June, 2017
- During Ramadan, charity and kindness is undertaken with great efforts, as it is one of the five pillars of Islam
- Food and drinks are not allowed to consumed in public in UAE during fasting hours, out of respect for Muslims who observe fasting
