UAE Foundation Considers Thalassaemia Centres For Abu Dhabi
A UAE foundation is considering establishing thalassaemia centres in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, Chairman of the Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Humanitarian and Scientific Foundation, made the announcement in the capital on Wednesday, saying it followed the establishment of the Ras Al Khaimah centre that the foundation established, which treats 70 patients.
Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan stressed the importance of gaining scientific and practical experience to combat thalassaemia, an inherited blood disorder, in a way to contribute to the development of specialised centres.
The foundation also announced during the conference this year’s winners of the Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan global award for thalassaemia. More than 400 submissions from researchers, doctors and specialists were received, 250 of which came from within the UAE.
