UAE doctor to support cancer research by cycling 160 Km

An Abu Dhabi doctor has plans to cycle 100 miles in the scorching heat of the summer in UAE where the temperatures are at a minimum of over 40° C during the day. What inspired this man to take up such a feat is his father who had passed away earlier this May due to cancer and will take up the VeloSano ride in Abu Dhabi next Sunday.
Dr. Matthew Kroh, Chairman of the Digestive Disease Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, will be participating in the charity ride VeloSano which is similar to riding across Dubai to Fujairah. VeloSano is a community-driven fundraising initiative that goes year-round to support advance lifesaving cancer research at Cleveland Clinic. The same ride gets carried out in Cleveland, Ohio, the US city where the healthcare network is headquartered every July 22nd.
Although this isn’t the very first charity ride for Dr. Kroh’s, it shall indeed be a very challenging one, draining him both physically and emotionally.
“I’ve taken part for four years now, but this year is especially challenging because I lost my father to oesophageal cancer just three months ago. He received outstanding care at the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Centre in Ohio and I am immensely thankful for the expert and compassionate care he received.” Dr. Kroh said.
Dr. Kroh is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is also is also an associate professor of surgery at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.
Last year’s event recorded around 2,000 cyclists and more than 1,000 additional volunteers have taken part.
