UAE Bags Third Place on Most Peaceful Countries in MENA

- UAE has been ranked the third most peaceful country in the Middle East and North Africa, according to the newly released annual Global Peace Index
- UAE is placed 65th overall in the world on the list of most peaceful countries, out of 163 countries
- UAE received 4.5 of a total 5 points for security and policing, and a full 5/5 points for securing military hardware needed for defence
- UAE also scored well with low indicators of violence at 1/5 and low homicide rate per capita at 1.3/5
- The Global Peace Index is an annual report released by the Institute of Economics and Peace, which measures the relative peacefulness of countries around the globe
- According to GPI 2017, the global level of peace has deteriorated by 2.14 per cent since 2008, with 80 countries improving while 83 countries deteriorated
- Iceland is the most peaceful country in the world, a spot it has coveted since 2008
- The most violent country in the world is Syria, followed by Afghanistan, Iraq, South Sudan and Yemen
- Iceland, New Zealand, Portugal, Austria, and Denmark fill up the positions of the top five most peaceful countries in the world as per the Global Peace Index 2017
