Thousands Gather for 21st Terry Fox Run at Abu Dhabi

- Thousands of residents gathered at the Abu Dhabi Corniche for the 21st edition of the Terry Fox Run in the capital on Friday morning (19th January 2018)
- The 8.5-kilometre run began at the east plaza of the Corniche, and participants headed to the Mina Zayed Port
- 2018 is the 38th year of the Terry Fox run since it was commenced
- The Terry Fox Run in Abu Dhabi is a fun family event, and also a day on which you can honour someone you know who has been diagnosed with cancer
- The Terry Fox Run is an annual non-competitive charity event held in numerous regions around the world
- The Terry Fox Run was inaugurated on 13 September 1981
- The Run first began when Terry Fox, a 22-year-old Canadian whose leg had to be amputated due to bone cancer, embarked on the Marathon of Hope in 1980
- After 143 days of running, Terry Fox was forced to abandon the initiative due to the spread of cancer, and he eventually died of the disease a few months later
- In the UAE, the Terry Fox Run has raised AED 22 million to support cancer research, including AED 7 million in Abu Dhabi alone
