The 7th Art – Arts Event in Abu Dhabi

“The 7th Art,” the increasingly popular film screening program initiated last fall by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, will continue through mid-May and will introduce two new highlights. ‘The Greatest Films of All Time,’ kicks off what will be an ongoing presentation of universally recognized masterpieces. During this winter-spring season, the bi-weekly 7:00 pm Sunday screenings in the auditorium at Manarat al Saadiyat will alternate with the continuation and conclusion of the documentary series “The Story of Film.”
Meanwhile, the series will expand to take great movies outdoors as “The 7th Art Al Fresco” brings family-friendly films to different outdoor sites around the capital on Saturday evenings.
All of the films will be introduced by veteran film expert Peter Scarlet, who has once again curated the program and who will lead Q&A sessions after each of the screenings.
Peter Scarlet (Curator of the Programme)
Recognized widely as one of the most respected programmers on the international film scene, Peter Scarlet curates and introduces all 7th Art programs, and leads discussions after each. He is co-curator of Abbas Kiarostami’s current photo installation, “Doors Without Keys” at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, consults and hosts programmes with Cinema Akil, and serves on the programming committee of the Al Serkal Arts Hub.
His past credits include directing the San Francisco International Film Festival, the oldest in the U.S., and NYC’s Tribeca Film Festival, then the youngest in the U.S. He has also been in charge of both Paris’s Cinémathèque Française, and of Abu Dhabi’s film festival.
