All taxis in Dubai are to be fitted by surveillance cameras by the end of 2018. This decision is taken only to improve the safety of the passengers and the driver within the vehicle during the commute. This move will also help in improving the level of public transportation services.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has in fact already started fitting taxis with the surveillance cameras so that they can also monitor the code of conduct of the taxi driver and verify their compliance with the professional driving standards. The moral attitudes of the drivers are also noted and observed at the same time with the aid of such surveillance cameras in place.

So far the surveillance cameras have been fit and are working fine in nearly 6,500 taxis out of the existing 10,221 taxis that are currently present on the roads of Dubai. The rest of the taxis will also be covered before the end of this year. This step is initiated by the RTA and is a step towards increasing “people happiness” which also fits the Smart City initiative of the government. Thereby turning their strategic goals and planned objectives into a reality.

The surveillance cameras record the video continuously and the footage can be retrieved at any given period of time. This will be done so majorly in the case of violations that could have been reported during the taxi trip or even after. The helps in eliminating any of the complaints that are received from service beneficiaries. Now you need not have any tension or be stressed out even when you have lost your wallet or any other personal important valuable. It can always be retrieved at any given point in time.
