RTA to Implement to Driving License Rules in Dubai from 1st July 2017
- RTA Dubai announced on 27th June, 2017, that new rules for renewing and issuing driving licenses in the emirate will be effective from 1st July, 2017
- From 1st July, 2017, new driving licenses in UAE will be valid for two years from the date of issue, provided the driver is over 21 years of age
- Renewal validity for driving licenses which are issued after 1st July will be 10 years for UAE and GCC nationals, and 5 years for all other expatriates
- For drivers who are under 21 years old, the initial validity of the license issued or renewed will be one year, irrespective of their nationality
- Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is the government entity that is responsible for developing and maintaining all transport-related infrastructure in Dubai
- In Dubai, driving licenses can be obtained only by people who are 18 or older, although one can start learning to drive before 18 itself
- Expatriates in Dubai are required to have a valid residence permit for the renewal of licenses
- Dubai has five renowned driving schools – Emirates Driving Institute, Dubai Driving Centre, Belhasa Driving School, Galadari Motor Driving Centre and Al Ahli Driving Centre
- Black points are charged against driving licenses in Dubai when drivers commit traffic violations, and an accumulation of 24 black points for the first time will lead to losing the license for 3 months
