RTA: Dubai cycling tracks to get longer by 2022

Before the end of this year, cyclists and cycle enthusiasts will have a lot more places to cycle in Dubai alone. And there shall be even more in the next coming years all thanks to the new plan and scheme that has been prepared by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that they have planned and intend to place the cycling tracks around some of the key locations all within the city by the end of 2022. There shall be a further extension of the current existing cycling routes before the end of this year.
The total length of the cycling tracks by the year 2022 is planned to reach 560 Km. Whereas as the other routes that already exists and is ready for an extension will be done with way before the start of Expo 2020.
Maitha Mohammad Bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, “Dubai currently has over 250 km of dedicated cycling tracks and the RTA has plans of constructing more tracks in the coming years. The new tracks are planned to extend through Jumeirah Beach, Expo 2020 site, Downtown Dubai, Jebel Ali, Al Quoz, Karama, Oud Metha and Al Barsha.”
Back in the year 2006, there was only 10 Km of cycling tracks within the city alone, so this is definitely a vast improvement.
Maitha Mohammad Bin Adai also added, “The RTA’s master plan includes providing dedicated cycling and running tracks covering the entire emirate, allowing people to use it as environment-friendly mobility means as well as fitness and recreational facilities.”
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has got even bigger ambitions when aiming in the long term at 2030 to have an expansion of the cycling tracks to 850 Km by then.
