The Rituals of Majlis and Gahwa – Culture Event in Abu Dhabi

Multaqa Zayed National Museum is a platform for discussion and debate about the museum. The forum for public participation features an engaging series of talks which will explore the main themes of the museum.
The dynamic programme will link the content, location, and audience for each talk to the museum narrative. The series will encourage a further dialogue between the museum and its public whilst providing an opportunity for involvement to help shape Zayed National Museum into a museum truly representative of the UAE.
The Talk:
Have you ever wondered why Gahwa is associated with a Majlis or gathering?
Exploring Majlis rituals and the historical roots of Gahwa preparation, serving and drinking, the talk looks at the hidden history of social Emirati hospitality and one of the most important intangible heritage elements that was inscribed in the UNESCO list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2015.
