The Father of the Nation, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, said, ‘There is no glory without the glory of the country and its citizens.’

The Abu Dhabi Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary with a remarkable exhibition of 20 specially commissioned pieces and a number of loaned works, capturing the spirit of the United Arab Emirates through some of the country’s most dynamic artists.

‘Portrait of a Nation’ brings together the UAE’s leading contemporary practitioners to reflect upon their homeland from individual artistic perspectives. The exhibition explores questions surrounding Emirati identity, heritage and nationhood. While some artists engage with materials unique to the Emirati landscape, others explore the influence of technology, architecture and globalisation today.
