Paid parking across Abu Dhabi city: From August 18

The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport announced on Tuesday that all the areas that are available for parking will become paid from the date of August 18th onwards. Motorists and vehicle owners have been urged by the transport department to obtain residential parking permits ahead of the date of implementation if they want to avoid fines and penalties.
This move is taken so that motorists looking for parking will have less hassle in finding one and there will also be more parking spaces available for those motorists. Also this rule is being implemented to ensure that there is a smooth flow of traffic across the Emirates and all the parking spaces are organized all across the city.
The concept of paid parking was introduced in the year of 2009 after there had been rampant complaints of unavailable parking and insufficient spaces. Ever since then, parking in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has been made to be paid sector by sector starting right from the busiest of the busiest parts of Abu Dhabi. It first started with the pavement areas having a special kind of markings that indicate the areas where the scheme has been implemented.
