Oasis Afternoons – Culture Event in Abu Dhabi

Family afternoons at the community market, start on a trail from the courtyards of Al Ain Palace Museum into the plazas of Al Ain Oasis. There is something for the whole family to enjoy – produce from the farms of the Oasis, crafts and artisanal products, art in the Oasis for children and teenagers to be inspired beneath the palms.
The ‘Afternoons’ take place on February 10-11/March 3-4/March 24-25/April 7-8

Traditional Souk
The souk features vendors selling traditional, handmade and modern Emirati products and produce. The vendors include Magrudy’s, Al Foah Dates, Dolce Gelato, Al Fanar, Blank Canvas, T-junction, Mazara’a, 320, Dikan Zaman and Karak Babu besides many more.
Food trucks include Gossip and The Shebi
Traditional Games
Traditional games, such as Carom, are set-up for guests to play. These areas are filled with groups of friends playing and enjoying the experience.

Artisans demonstrate how to make a range of beautifully designed products using khoos, showcasing key elements of traditional Emirati culture

Capture the colours of Al Ain Oasis using a range of paints, waxes, alcohol-based ink, salts and watercolours in an informal setting and spend as much time as you desire on your creations.

Proud Expressions with artist Jack Lee
Proud Expressions is a national public art programme that aims to pay symbolic tribute to the heroes of the UAE.
Join the master class with renowned art teacher Jack Lee and create a painting that evokes a sense of pride, gratitude, nationhood and courage to the sacrifices made by the Heroes of the UAE. Find your easels and paint stations set up in the midst of the tranquil Al Ain Oasis.
Participants will be encouraged to submit their completed art work for inclusion in the Open Call exhibition.

Painting Oasis Date Palm Trees with artist Jack Lee
Renowned painter and art teacher Jack Lee will teach a beginners master class on oil paints using the nature of Al Ain Oasis as inspiration. Find your easels and paint stations set up in the midst of the tranquil Al Ain Oasis, a perfect spot for dabbling in plain air colour and shadows.

Natural Date Palm Handicrafts Making with instructor Mike Metzger
Sustainability enthusiast’s with have to chance to learn how to fold, weave, twist and build an assortment of handicrafts using only natural coconut leaves and date palm branches. Both youth and adults can make a sun hat, a pair of sandals, a basket or a natural house broom.

Natural Dyes & Heritage Date Palm Rope-Making with instructor Mike Metzger
The UAE was once a paradise for plants, trees, wild animals, lizards snakes and more, take a journey into the amazing and lost world of the UAE’s local plant life and learn how extract beautiful colours that can dye your own t-shirts with. We will be using leaves, twigs and barks from trees, shrubs and bushes. Join mike the naturalist and discover how to dye your own clothes the Arabian way.

Drop-in Workshops for Children
Paper Leaves
In the manner of artist Henri Matisse, draw your own palm leaves on coloured paper. Coloured paper is cut and folded upwards following outlines of palm leaves, and then placed on contrasting coloured paper to create 3D leaves. These two unique leaves will then be featured on a large surface to form a collaborative public piece.
