Noise-free, high speed abras launched in Dubai
Now, stop complaining about noisy, slow-moving abras. A light weight, speed exceeding three times the speed of their traditional counterparts coupled with zero noise level abras are ready to ferry you along Dubai Creek.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched five modern abras on four lines linking five stations: Baniyas, Al Sabkha, Al Ghubaiba, Dubai Old Souk and Al Fahidi stations.
Three lines now link Baniyas station with Al Fahidi, Dubai Old Souk and Al Sabkha stations, and the fourth line links Old Souk station with Al Ghubaiba station.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said: “The new abras are characterised by light weight and speed exceeding three times the speed of their traditional counterparts, yet maintaining high balance on the waves coupled with zero noise level. These abras are fitted with seats which have over-head shades for protecting riders from sunlight. Besides, the manufacturing of the new abras focused on preserving the traditional shape, adopting the highest safety standards, and using high-octane petrol which generates low carbon emissions.
“The position of the driver is shifted to the front side, thus offering the driver clearer view. Over the next five years the RTA will increase the number of service: 50 abras in 2017, 100 abras in 2019, and up to 150 abras by 2020,” Al Tayer said. Details
