New AED 400 Million Roadworks Project for Abu Dhabi

- An AED 397.6 million project to improve roads and infrastructure in Abu Dhabi was announced in the capital on Saturday, 12th August, 2017
- The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport at Abu Dhabi City Municipality, along with Abu Dhabi Public Services Company, Musanada, is carrying out internal roads and infrastructure projects in Shawamikh
- The first phase of the Abu Dhabi roads development, which costs more than AED 259m, has already begun in sectors 7 and 12, and will be completed by the end of 2018
- Phase two in the Shawamakh area includes internal roads and infrastructure works in sectors 1, 2, 4, 5, 9 and 10, costing more than AED 138.6m, which is expected to be finished in early 2019
- The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City is municipal system responsible for the development and welfare of Abu Dhabi
- Abu Dhabi has significantly improved its roads and traffic flow over the years, with an AED 109 million project to improve Sheikh Zayed Tunnel and street launched in June 2017
- The scope of the projects planned for Abu Dhabi include designing and building 301 land plots, including 241 residential, 7 dedicated to religious purposes, 10 for parks, 3 for public facilities, 3 for the government as well as one for educational purposes
- Abu Dhabi has lighting works plans to improve the lighting efficiency of roads, costing more than AED 4.3 million
- Abu Dhabi Municipality started working on Green Abu Dhabi initiative in early August 2017, which aims to cover the preservation of 3,874 trees and 7,684 date trees as well as 450,000 square metres of greens and soil covers
