New Abu Dhabi park to promote sustainability and local culture

A new park in Khalidiya will have sustainability, economic diversification and Emirati culture at its heart when it is completed in 2018.
Benoy, an international architectural firm, has been awarded the contract for the Dh94 million redevelopment of Khalidiya Ladies Park into Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Park.
The project was commissioned by the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport.
Benoy’s projects in the UAE include The Beach and City Walk in Dubai.
The firm started design work on the 46,000 square metre project this year.
The Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Park will feature an urban forest of tropical trees and a backdrop reminiscent of Abu Dhabi’s heritage and culture.
Other features include a cycling track, play areas and fitness zones.
“Benoy is fiercely proud of its expertise in drawing different communities together with spaces that disrupt the norm, surprise and delight and allow people to enjoy them in their own way,” Mr Priest said.
