New $183m Abu Dhabi airport interchange set for 2017 completion

A AED677 million ($184.3 million) project to build a highway interchange for the rapidly-expanding Abu Dhabi International Airport is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017, it has been announced.
The project includes four 5.6km single-direction connecting roads (including 4.8km bridges), the construction of an underpass leading to Yas Island, and an overpass connecting Yas Island and the Airport City A.
It also includes the widening of the (E10) road from four lanes to five in both directions to a total length of 8km, and the construction of a secondary 3.7km three-lane road network between Interchange No.6 and (E12) road that will connect the Yas Island tunnel to the (E10) road.
Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) announced that it has completed 40 percent of the project and is being built in parallel with the opening of the New Midfield Complex at the airport.
Hamdan Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Musanada’s acting roads director, said the project aims “to accommodate the expected increase in traffic volume and the constant growth of the numbers of UAE visitors.”
