Moon Sighting Confirms Eid Al Adha 2017 Date

- The Supreme Court in Saudi Arabia announced that the crescent of the month of Zul Hijja was sighted on Tuesday, and Wednesday (23rd August) will be Zul Hijjah 1
- Subsequently, Hajj will be on Thursday, 31st August, and Eid al Adha will be on Friday, 1st September
- The sighting was awaited since Tuesday when the Supreme Court said that the moon was not sighted on Monday night
- The moon sighting was confirmed by a tweet posted by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA)
- Eid Al Adha, which means ‘Feast of the Sacrifice’, is observed after the period in which Muslims undertake the sacred Hajj pilgrimage
- Eid Al Adha is the largest Islamic festival celebrated worldwide
- As per the Islamic calendar, Eid Al Adha will fall on Dhu Al Hijjah 10, 1438
