Midfield Terminal Will be a ‘Cultural Gateway’ to UAE

- Steady progress is being made at the AED 19.1 billion Abu Dhabi Airports Midfield Terminal complex, set to be the new home for Etihad Airways
- The terminal will have the world’s longest indoor arch at 180 metres long, 52 metres high and weighing 1000 metric tonnes
- The latest immigration controls and artificial intelligence will help process 11,000 passengers an hour, with luggage technology handling about 19,200 bags per hour
- The Midfield Terminal building is expected to serve 84 million passengers a year
- Upon completion, the Midfield Terminal at the Abu Dhabi International Airport will be the world’s largest airport terminal under one roof
- The construction of the Midfield Terminal is being handled by a consortium of Turkey’s TAV Insaat, Athens’s Consolidated Contractors Company and Dubai’s Arabtec
- The 700000 sqm Midfield Terminal has a curved roof that appears to float across 18 steel arches and can be viewed from 1.5 km away
- The USD 2.94-billion Midfield Terminal was originally scheduled to open in September 2017, which has now been postponed to 2019
- The Midfield Terminal will give competition to the Singapore Changi International Airport, Tokyo Haneda International Airport and Incheon International in South Korea
