Mercury Levels on the Rise in UAE as Peak Summer Approches

- UAE residents should take extra precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses as the mercury rises above 40 degree Celsius and nears 50 degree Celsius in the country
- According to the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology, the weekend (9th-10th June, 2017) will be hot in general with internal areas getting the maximum temperatures of between 44C and 49C
- The mercury will slide down a bit to 39C to 44C along the coast and further down to 33C to 37C in mountain areas between 9th and 10th June
- The best precaution to follow before going out is to hydrate yourself by drinking at least two litres of water, as per Dr Arun Kumar Sharma, consultant neurologist at Medeor 24X7 Hospital Dubai
- UAE’s summers are known to be quite harsh, with the highest temperature in 2017 recorded on 7th June, in Mezaira, at 49.6 degree Celsius at 03:00 PM
- Between June and end of August, the temperature is normally above 40C and slightly above 50C in UAE
- Internal areas in UAE generally get more affected during the summer and tend to record high temperatures
- Best way to avoid direct heat exposure is by staying indoors whenever possible, especially from noon until around 03:00 PM
- Precautions to keep in mind during UAE summers is to always apply a good sunscreen before going outside, keeping an umbrella handy, and wearing light and breathable clothes
