Martha Argerich & Gidon Kremer With Kremerata Baltica in Al Ain

Date: FEB 03, 2016
Venue: AL AIN: AL AIN MUNICIPALITY THEATRE
On the occasion of their second concert in the UAE, the two legendary performers Martha Argerich and Gidon Kremer have chosen to play in Al Ain. The evening will see two of the greatest living interpreters of classical music come together with the Chamber Orchestra that Kremer founded in 1997, the Kremerata Baltica, composed of young musicians from all three Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia)
On the programme is again a magnificent array of works, including two prominent pieces from 20th century music: Weinberg’s Sinfonietta Nr.2 for strings and timpani and Shostakovich’s experimental yet neo-classical Concerto for piano, trumpet and strings. Schumann’s Bilder aus Osten, inspired by the German poet Friedrich Rückert’s adaptation of al-Harīrī’s Maqāmāt will recall this year’s theme of the TCA Abu Dhabi Classics programme and contribute to the further understanding of the relation between poetical and musical expression. As a professor of Oriental languages at the University of Erlangen, Rückert had first published in 1826 his work Die Makâmen des Hariri on the basis of the Classical Arab poet al-Hariri of Basra (1054-1122) rhymed prose, inspiring in turn Schumann to a vivid romantic and playful interpretation of the Arab subjects he had discovered through Rückert’s book. Rounding off the evening, the version for violin and piano of Mozart’s Concerto KV 299 will again allow the two great performers Argerich and Kremer to show all their passion and mastery.
