Legal Action Against 31000 Kuwait Employees Faking Sick Leave After Eid

- Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs and Labour has warned of legal and administrative measures against state employees who failed to report to work following the Eid Al Fitr 2017 break
- Over 30000 employees in Kuwait took advantage of the weekend preceding the Eid and took Wednesday and Thursday off ahead of the two-day weekend to accumulate a nine-day Eid break
- Kuwaiti residents faking sick leave resorted to health centres in order to obtain “legal” sick-leaves for 28th and 29th June, 2017
- The Civil Service Commission has launched a probe to check the patients’ health records and the names of the doctors who signed the leaves, to determine whether the leaves are genuine or not
- Kuwaiti employees had three days off, from 25th-27th June for Eid Al Fitr 2017 holidays
- An incident of extra days based on bogus sick leaves occurred in July 2015 in Kuwait when around 30000 public employees in the country kept away from offices following the official Eid holiday
- In 2011, Kuwait’s Annual Leave Report showed that half of the state’s employees were absent from work under various excuses, costing the country’s treasury more than KWD 10.5 million
- February, even though it is the shortest month in the year, has the highest percentage of sick leave applicants in Kuwait
- Following many incidents over the years in Kuwait when employees fake leaves to extend national holidays, severe investigation and action like remanding might be taken against people who continue to do it
