Heavier Car Window Tint now Allowed in UAE

- Dubai Police announced that according to new traffic rules, car owners will be allowed to use 50% tint in their car windows
- The new amendment for a darker window tint is applicable to all vehicles except trucks and taxis
- Implemented as part of new traffic rules in UAE from 1st July, 2017, up to 50% tinting can be done only on the windows of vehicles and not on the front wind screen
- Other changes in UAE traffic rules include implementing the white points system, which currently exists only in Dubai, in all the other emirates across the country
- Before 1st July, 2017, the maximum car window tint that was allowed was 30%, and anyone using a heavier tint than that would be fined AED 1500
- From 1st July 2017, heavier fines for traffic violations in Abu Dhabi like not wearing seat belts and jumping red lights have been implemented, as per the amended executive regulations of 2017’s Federal Traffic Law No. 21
- The heaviest penalty in UAE with new rules from 1st July, 2017, is for driving under the influence of alcohol, with penalties of AED 20000, 23 black points, confiscation of license for 60 days, and possible jail term
- An amended Federal Traffic Law that came into effect on 1st July, 2017, mandates car child seats for children up to the age of four years, which is now applicable to taxis and limos as well
- Riding a quad bike on the road costs the rider AED 3000 and confiscation for 90 days, while littering on the road is charged at AED 1000 and the jaywalking penalty is AED 400
