These sun-kissed fruits are famous all over the UAE. From Pakistan, these mangoes come in small, golden and with a honey sweetness to it. The mangoes are a personal preference to the residents residing in the UAE. These mangoes are going to last in the nation for another two weeks.
What makes it all the more appealing is the fact that these sun-kissed fruits have a cross border secret. The breed of mangoes that are popular are Anwar Ratol.
The main importer of these mangoes is the Pakistan Supermarket Group. Mohammad Gulraiz, managing director of the group, said: “We get more than 200 cartons of Anwar Ratol from Pakistan every day. They usually get sold out in a day or two.”
The craze for mangoes all start in the mid of march with those breeds that hail all the way from Pakistan and India taking the lead. There are over 400 different types of mangoes all across the world with the best one leading them all is the Alphonso. The Alphonso starts the season in the middle of March and is the “king of Fruits”.
Now, what most of the people who do not know about the famous Pakistani mangoes of the breed Anwar Ratol is that they have got their roots in India from the state of Uttar Pradesh. This mango was first grown in the Indian state about two hours away from New Delhi and during the partition that took place in the year of 1947, a mango farmer from the Ratol village had migrated to the Punjab in Pakistan. He then named the fruit after the name of his father and then the name of the district that he hailed from. His father’s name being ‘Anwar’ and his district’s name being ‘Ratol’.
This too being the summer season, it affects the fruit sales in a very positive fashion. The stores have mentioned that the sales during this season only increases, meaning that the summer sales made during this time period will equal to roughly the sales that are made in the two or three months of sales that are made in the off season.
