Fog-Busting Lights Feature on Abu Dhabi’s New Motorway

- A new highway in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region aims to provide faster and safer traffic flow – and has special underpasses for camels
- The Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed highway was inaugurated on Wednesday (24th January) by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed
- The highway is fully lit with LED lamps to increase visibility and reduce fog-related risks, and the asphalt level of the road has also been raised for proper drainage
- For motorists’ convenience, there are lay-bys and hard shoulders, as well as petrol stations at two new locations, near Barakah and Mirfa, in addition to 15 new interchanges
- Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed is the the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region in Abu Dhabi
- The AED 5.3 billion Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed highway has increased the number lanes from two to three in the area between Barakah and Ghuwaifat
- Four lanes were introduced on the highway in the area between Mafraq and Baynounah Forests, which stretches over 182 kilometres
- Each lane of the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed highway accommodates up to 2500 cars per hour
- Al Dhafra is well known as a hub for camels, and their safety has also been taken into consideration, by setting up underpasses on the highway
