Extra Safety for Riders With Careem’s new Anonymous Calling Feature

- Careem has launched a new call masking feature in UAE, which allows riders to call the cab driver anonymously
- The new calling feature on Careem ensures that the driver does not get to know the phone number of the passenger, which is an added layer of security for the riders
- With the call masking feature in place, the Captain (Careem driver) will only receive an encrypted number instead of the user’s real phone number
- The new feature will be introduced in other regional markets of Careem, including Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, within the coming 30 days
- Careem is a ride-hailing service, valued at USD 1 billion, with operations in over 50 cities across the MENA region
- You can book a Careem ride by downloading the app, creating your profile, select a type of car, choose whether to ‘Ride Now’ or ‘Ride Later’, enter your pickup and drop location, choose your preferred payment method, and confirm the booking
- The different car services on Careem include Beta, Delivery, UNHCR, Economy, Max, Careem Kids, Business, Ameera and First Class
- According to a 2017 CIGI-Ipsos Global Survey, lack of trust is one of the key reasons keeping people off e-commerce platforms in the Middle East & North Africa
- Careem launched its service in Bahrain in July 2017, in partnership with Arabian Taxi, the first full-fledged taxi service in the country
