The fourth edition of Emirati Expressions features works by 15 Emirati artists alongside an exciting public programme of talks, workshops and publications.
Emirati Expressions is a biannual exhibition that presents a variety of artistic and cultural expressions by Emirati artists. The exhibitions provide space for Emirati artists to question and reflect on their artistic language.

The fourth edition will look at the functionality and usability of art. This exhibition will focus on a generation of artists who have combined a language of form and use, while bridging the gap between various disciplines in the visual and applied arts. The exhibition engages with society and invites an expanded understanding of art and its role, especially within the context of the UAE.

This exhibition also draws focus to the various cultural and community clubs that are the historic nuclei of cultural institutions within Abu Dhabi, long serving a variety of functions, such as sports, environment and heritage. The exhibition extends into a number of these clubs and in public locations throughout the city.

Artworks will include wearable textiles, photography, furniture design, interactive video installations, paintings, illustrations, large-scale sculptures, and a live studio where artists will be working throughout the exhibition.
Throughout the exhibition, Emirati Expressions IV: Conventions of Arts will also present a series of public events, artists’ talks and workshops that engage with the UAE’s arts community and wider population.
Emirati Expressions IV: Conventions of Arts is curated by Maisa Al Qassimi, Programmes Manager, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority and Reem Fadda, Associate Curator, Middle Eastern Art for the Abu Dhabi Project of the Solomon R. Guggenheim, with Muneera Al Sayegh, Programmes Officer, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority.
