East India Tourism
East India is a region in the eastern part of India. It includes the states West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and the seven eastern states Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. It also houses the Union Territory Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of bengal.
The famous cities in this region are Patna, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bhubneshwar, Puri(Konark), Kolkata, Gawhati, Imphal, Shillong, Aizawl, Gangtok, Agaratala, Itanagar etc. It also houses famous hill station Darjeeling and all these eastern state also houses hill stations which are worth to visit. This region has mesmerising scenic beauty. It has captivating tea farm, from where the tea is exported to other part of the india as well as abroad. The ruins of ancient Nalanda University can be found near Rajgir. This part includes many pilgrimage centers for Jain and Buddha communities. Bodhgaya and puri are the most famous pilgrimage center in this region. Odissi dance and music is the only classical dance and music in eastern India.
Arunachal Pradesh means “land of the dawn-lit mountains”. It is also known as “land of the rising sun”. Much of Arunachal Pradesh is covered by the Himalayas. Tourist attractions include Tawang, a beautiful town famous for its Buddhist monastery, Ziro, famous for cultural festivals, the Namdapha tiger project in Changlang and Sela lake near Bomdila with its bamboo bridges overhanging the river. Religious places of interest include Malinithan in Lekhabali, Rukhmininagar near Roing, and Parshuram Kund in Lohit district. Rafting and trekking are common activities. Places like Tuting have wonderful, undiscovered scenic beauty.
Assam is particularly famous for its natural beauty. The landscape includes tea gardens, the river Brahmaputra, and many historical monuments and temples. Swami Vivekananda once said that, “next only to Kashmir, Assam is the most beautiful place in India”. It is becoming an increasingly popular destination for wildlife tourism, and Kaziranga and Manas are both World Heritage Sites. It is also famous for Tea Gardens.
Jharkhand was carved out of the southern part of Bihar. The name “Jharkhand” means “The Land of Forests”. This state is famous for its industries. The main cities in the state are Ranchi, Bokaro, Jamshedpur etc. These cities are also famous for its steel industries. Dhuska is a famous dish of Jharkhand cooked with mashed rice and pulses and served with either aaloo dum or mutton curry. Fruits such as Jackfruit, Blackberry, Mango and Litchi are found in abundance. The Betla national park attracts tourist from all round the country
Mizoram is known for its Bamboo Industry. Mizoram is considered by many as a beautiful place due to its dramatic landscape and pleasant climate. The state is rich in bird diversity, which has the potentiality to make it a major birding destination. There is also a rare record of the Wild Water Buffalo from the state. There are several past records of the Sumatran rhinoceros from Mizoram. For tourists who are interested in Cultural Heritage, the eastern part of Mizoram is more attractive.
Orissa is located on the east coast of India, by the Bay of Bengal. It houses many lakes and rivers. The main cities in the state are Puri, Konark, Bhubneshwar, Cuttack etc. Odissi or Orissi dance and music is classified as a classical music of India, is the famous in the state. The famous Indian sweet “rasogolla” has its origin from this state. Famous places in the state are Jagannath Temple of Puri, the Konark Sun Temple, the Lingaraj Temple,Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, Dhauligiri of Bhubaneshwar, Ashoka’s famous Rock Edict at Jaugada near Berhampur city and the Barabati Fort of Cuttack etc.
West Bengal is the state, from where famous indian poets and literary people came up. Durga Puja in October is the most popular festival in the West Bengal. Rice and fish are traditional favourite foods of the state. It houses the prestigious educational institutes like IIT Kharagpur, IIM Calcutta, Medical College Kolkata etc.The main cities in the state are Kolkata, Darjeeling Hill Station etc. Famous places in the state are Howrah Bridge(Rabindra Setu), Victoria Memorial, Dakshineswar Kali Temple, Belur Math (Ramakrishna Temple), hills and tea gardens in darjeeling, darjeeling troy train etc.
