Dubai Zoo (Jumeirah Zoo) to be Closed in November 2017, UAE
- The Dubai Zoo will now be closed in preparation for the opening of the Dubai Safari project
- A ceremony will be organised on 5th November, 2017, in appreciation of the zoo’s employees
- The public will be allowed to attend the closing ceremony and enter the Zoo free of charge
- Most of the existing animals at the zoo would be moved to the new Dubai Safari project facilities
- Dubai Zoo, also known as Jumeirah Zoo, is the oldest zoo in the Arabian Peninsula, opened in 1967
- The Dubai Safari Park is the latest venture undertaken by Dubai Municipality to protect and promote wildlife in the emirate, to replace Dubai Zoo
- The Safari Park sanctuary covers a massive area of 119 hectares, and will house more than 3500 animals in its first phase
- The Dubai Safari Park is set to be opened by the end of November 2017
- Dubai Zoo is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, so none of the wildlife in it will be disposed off or euthanised during the closure
