Dubai Welcomes Second Food Bank on World Food Day

- The UAE Food Bank opened its second branch on World Food Day, after the pilot project facilitated donation of 136 tonnes of food items in six months
- The facility was opened next to the Canadian University of Dubai campus in Al Bada area
- The second UAE Food Bank in Dubai has the permanent sponsorship of Easa Al Gurg Charity Foundation
- The Food Bank is partnering with major hotel chains, supermarkets, food factories and farms and will open its doors to volunteers to contribute to food distribution
- The UAE Food Bank is a non-profit charitable organisation launched under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives
- By 2018, the UAE Food Bank plans to start supplying food items to refugee camps and poor communities in other countries
- Dubai Municipality observed the World Food Day 2017 with mass food donation to 8000 migrant workers and a #ZeroFoodWaste campaign in the UAE
- There are 100 charity fridges belonging to the UAE Food Bank placed in 80 mosques across Dubai, as part of a “fill up the fridges” initiative
- The first branch of the UAE Food Bank has received has received 10245 kg of food as the most amount in single day, and 52335 kg within a month
