Dubai Roads to Face New Speed Limits

New reduced speed limits will come into force by RTA on Dubai’s road
- New reduced speed limits will come into force on Dubai’s two main highways, Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road and the Emirates Road
- From Sunday, 15th October, these roads will have a speed limit of 110km/h instead of 120km/h, along with new directional and awareness signage
- The Roads and Transport Authority and the General HQ of Dubai Police have taken this decision in efforts to curb traffic accidents and enhance the safety of road users
- Motorists speeding on these roads will be issued a fine once they exceed the 130 km/h grace window for the speed limit
- The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is the regulatory authority for all matters regarding transport and road safety in the emirate of Dubai
- Dubai Police is the main regulatory authority in the emirate, with a force of 15000, functioning for over 60 years in Dubai
- In June 2017, RTA began painting some roads in Dubai red, as an experiment to alert drivers of new speed limits
- In September 2017, RTA and Dubai Police announced the decision to reduce the speed limit on busy highways following a spate of accidents over previous years
- Motorists will be slapped with a AED 600 fine for exceeding the speed limit by 30 km/h, AED 700 for speeding by 40 km/h, and AED 1000 if they drive 50 km/h over the speed limit
