Dubai opens a secret haven for Filipino bargain hunters

Dubai has recently just opened a secret haven for Filipino shoppers who look to purchase clothes and other merchandise at a bargain price. Over here there are items that start as less as AED 1. And the deals are just great.
There are shirts and shorts here that cost for just AED 1. Usually, it is the small toys and other accessories that cost AED 1, but never a full shirt or shorts. There are also shorts that cost more than AED 1 but under AED 15.
The Filipinos are known for purchasing from the flea market ever so often that the same culture has been inculcated within the streets of Dubai as well. There have been plenty of flea markets that have all mushroomed in Dubai ever since the last two years.
The name of this popular flea market is called as ‘ukay- ukay’. Most shoppers say that the thrift shops are all much cheaper that the normal retail and outlet shops, provided that you know where to look.
The word ‘ukay- ukay’ comes from the Filipino term “halukay” which only means “to dig”. And that is exactly what you will be seeing most of the shoppers who come over here be doing. These days there are many such flea markets that are being opened on the regular in many parts of Dubai and they also seem to be doing extremely well.
The flea markets are located in Al Satwa, Karama, Deira and Bur Dubai. There a few more also in International City.
There is a mix of things one can buy at a bargain over here. Shirts, jeans, trousers, shoes, bags, dresses all for a few coins. Literally, it is very cheap and due to this reason, it is also very crowded. But it is a good sign for business owners and the like. There are also gems at a bargain price and also unused clothes that make their way here directly from the mall outlets. The cost all in all is usually AED 1 to AED 10 and never more than AED 15.
But if you come here looking for the best bargains you will find them, no doubt, but at another price – patience. One requires a good amount of patience to go through all the material and all the items that they have in stock before they can actually come to find what they like and take them home.
