Dubai Municipality Launches Free Libraries at Parks

- Dubai Municipality launched Park Libraries initiative to instill the culture of reading among the community members on 20th June, 2017
- The first of its kind library, powered by solar energy, was opened at Al Garhoud Park to motivate the public to read as they spend time at the parks
- The Park Libraries initiative allows visitors to the park to borrow books for free from the libraries which are going to be installed in parks all across Dubai
- The park library is equipped with about 70 knowledge sources, in both Arabic and English, to make it easier for people to learn about the heritage, history, information, values and traditions of UAE
- Dubai Municipality is the municipal body with jurisdiction over city services and the upkeep of facilities in Dubai, under the Government of Dubai
- Dubai has around ten major public parks, apart from which there are hundreds of small neighbourhood parks, of which some are exclusive to ladies and families
- Dubai’s best parks include Zabeel park, Mushrif park, Safa park, Creek park, Jumeriah beach park and Al Mamzar beach park
- In April 2017, Dubai Municipality launched the first Beach Libraries initiative, which involves opening eight on-beach libraries at Umm Suqeim, Jumeirah 1 and Al Mamzar beach
- Dubai Municipality has undertaken many other projects, which are set to be completed by 2021, such as the Dubai Convention Centre, Gulf Safari, Vertical Industrial City, Dubai Steps, Sewage Tunnels for Dubai
