Dubai Metro Partial Closure Starts Today

- A segment of Dubai Metro’s Red Line will be temporarily closed on every Friday and Saturday, starting from 28th July, 2017, for the next 10 weeks, until 15th October, 2017
- The closure of metro service between Jumeirah Lakes Towers station and Ibn Battuta station is to enable the construction work to link the Red Line with the under-construction Route 2020
- A free circular bus route will be in operation as an alternative service between Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and Ibn Battuta Metro Stations during the temporary closure
- Trains will switch rail tracks and return at JLT and Ibn Battuta metro stations after the automatic operation system is upgraded
- The Dubai Metro is a rapid transit rail network in Dubai, with two functional lines – Red Line and Green Line – and four proposed lines
- Work on the 15km long Route 2020, which is an extension of the Red Line, began in late 2016, connecting the Nakheel Harbour and Tower station with the Expo 2020 site
- The AED 10.6 billion Route 2020 is expected to be ready by the end of 2019 and will be scheduled to open for public from 20th May, 2020, five months before the start of Expo 2020
- Dubai metro will be getting 50 new trains from French company ALSTOM as part of Route 2020 Project
- The ridership of Route 2020 is expected to hit 125 thousand riders per day by 2020 and is expected to shoot up to 275 thousand riders per day by 2030
