Dubai Airport Runway to be Temporarily Closed

- Dubai International Airport will close one of its two runways for 45 days next year for upgrade work, temporarily reducing capacity
- The southern runway will be closed from 16th April 2018 to 30th May 2019, for resurfacing and replacement of ground lighting and other infrastructure
- Capacity will be significantly reduced by the temporary runway closure and airlines will have to scale back their operations during the 45 days, Dubai Airports said
- Dubai Airports said that airlines would be able to use Dubai’s second airport, Dubai World Central, located about 60km away
- Dubai International Airport is the busiest airport in the world in terms of the volume of international passengers
- DXB the third busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic and the busiest airport in the world operating with only two runways
- Dubai International operated with one runway for 80 days in 2014 because of upgrade and repair work on both its runways
- Dubai Airports has projected a 2.4% increase in passengers in 2018 to 90.3 million
- Dubai International Airport expects more than 100 million passengers by the end of 2020
