Drivers Over 65 need to take Medical Test for License Renewal

- RTA has introduced medical test procedures for motorists aged 65 and above who wish to renew their driving licences
- Drivers over 65 will now be required to undergo medical screening at public and private hospitals and clinics approved by the RTA in Dubai from 1st September, 2017
- The test is intended to verify if motorists are free from diseases that may impact their driving abilities to the extent of posing risks to road users
- The validity of the renewed driving licence for this category of people will be three years only, instead of 10 years
- Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is the government entity that is responsible for developing and maintaining all transport-related infrastructure in Dubai
- From 1st July, 2017, new driving licenses in UAE are valid for two years from the date of issue, provided the driver is over 21 years of age and below 65 years
- The renewal of driver licences service will be available through RTA’s Call Centre (8009090), website (www.rta.ae) and app on smart phones/devices (RTA Dubai)
- Expatriates in Dubai are required to have a valid residence permit for the renewal of licenses
- Dubai has five renowned driving schools – Emirates Driving Institute, Dubai Driving Centre, Belhasa Driving School, Galadari Motor Driving Centre and Al Ahli Driving Centre
