The month of January is almost over and Dubai is still waiting the promised rainy days.

Even as several parts of the UAE have received moderate to heavy rainfall, Dubai has remained relatively dry. There have been repeated forecasts of rainfall by National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) giving hope to the emirate’s residents, but in vain.

Dubai residents, who reel under hot summer months most of the year, desperately look forward to cooler rainy days of winter. However, this season has been relatively warmer, sunnier and drier in Dubai.

Dubai residents say they yearn to experience rainfall after months of dry spell. “I check the weather update regularly to see when it is going to rain. There are times when there is a forecast of rain but rain refuses to fall,” says Mariam who hails from India.

Hailing from Kerala, Mariam says she desperately waits for rain every winter. “Last year, it was very enjoyable. There were frequent rainfall and cool temperatures. But this year, it only seems impossible.”

Jibreel, who works as a marketing manager in Dubai, loves clicking pictures in rain. He has maintained a collection of rain pictures in Dubai.

“Rainfall is very rare here. And when it rains, Dubai looks awesome. I have clicked lots rainy pictures and maintained them as an album. I hope it rains soon in Dubai so that I can catch the moments.”

Aneela from Pakistan has not seen rain ever since she came to Dubai six months back. A homemaker, she misses the changes in the weather.

“I have only seen sunny days here so far. I haven’t seen rain here so far. I really wish to experience rainfall at the beach. I am sure it is going to be fun. I keep a watch on the weather forecast to check when it’s going to rain.”

According to the NCMS, there are now few chances of rain in the UAE. The weather is likely to be fair and windy with cooler evenings.

“I wish it gets so cold here that I wear my woollens. But the weather is still warm. The winter is almost over and there is no sign of rain too,” said Syed from Bangladesh.
