Beware of SMS / WhatsApp Scam messages in UAE

Scammers have long been trying to take money off innocent Etisalat and Du users. The recent one reported on Reddit by user yassertm3 is rather straight forward.
Scammers are tricking people to click on a number to hear the voice message that they received. But the link actually transfers credit from the subscriber’s number to another number. In the below case, a credit of AED7 will be transferred from the user clicking on the link.
How to protect yourself from such du / Etisalat telecom scammers:
- Do not click on any link that you receive on SMS or WhatsApp
- Report such messages to the Telecom Operator (Du / Etisalat)
- Report such scams to media, so that telecom users can be educated about it (you can report to AbuDhabi2.com here)
