Bait Al Oud Concert – Music Event in Abu Dhabi
A concert and ceremony at Bait Al Oud – Abu Dhabi, the prestigious music school dedicated to the teaching of traditional Arabian instruments, will be held over two nights to celebrate the graduation of four students.
The ceremony, held on the 18th and 19th April at the school in the capital city, is organised as part of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority’s (TCA Abu Dhabi) annual emirate-wide Music Programme, which also includes Abu Dhabi Classics, the Emirati Music Series and Umsiyat.
Bait Al Oud – Abu Dhabi focuses on the history, theory, practice and performance of traditional Arabic music and instruments, in particular the playing of the Qanun, Oud and Rebabah, and is renowned as a regional centre of musical expertise.
Each of the graduates will perform a solo rendition on their chosen instrument before a panel of teachers and an audience.
On the first night of the ceremony, 11-year-old Maryam Ammar and 14-year-old Yasmina Mansour, will display their talent and skills to a panel of musical instructors at the institution.
Yasmina, who lives in the capital, has been passionate about the Qanun since the age of six and despite excelling at piano, gravitated back to learning how to master the Qanun in 2013 under the distinguished music instructor Bassam Abdel Sattar in 2013. She wishes to excel at her school studies and be an ambassador for Oriental music now and in the future.
Maryam joined Bait Al Oud – Abu Dhabi at the end of 2011 and took up playing the Qanun under the supervision of music instructor Bassam Abdel Sattar and completed her theoretical music studies under the supervision of Samer Bo Reslan.
The following night will see a further two graduates perform including Hasan Abdel Baqi, aged 17 and Samer Ashtar Al Kurdi, aged 32, who has previously studied at the Arab Oud House in Egypt.
Entrance to the ceremonies is free and both begin at 8pm.
